This month's
weight loss...

Last month (May) 26 Ipswich clients lost a total of 343 lbs (24 stones and 7lbs) - an average loss of 13.19 lbs each.

Well done to all!

Hi !

TempterDiet saboteurs!

We all know one.  The person who tells you you’re starting to look too thin, the friend who insists that you must have a slice of birthday cake or the partner that tells you they love you just the way you are.

They may mean well, but the outcome is the same - they’re trying to sabotage your diet.

Tips for handling it:

Most people would think their partner would be their keenest supporter.  But if you suspect that they’re trying to put you off the idea completely it could be they’re scared that as you become slimmer your sexy new look could attract more attention.

Try reassuring them that losing weight will make you feel more positive about yourself and therefore happier in your relationship with them.

Your partner may not be the only person at home demanding your attention.  Parents know children can never have too much attention. It’s easy when you’re tired to find yourself comfort eating or nibbling on their leftovers. Think of other things to do, like calling a friend or taking a bath.   Instead of opening the biscuit barrel for treats, encourage your kids to develop an interest in healthy eating and try joining in their games to increase your own exercise levels!

Even the strongest friendships can become strained at times and as you lose weight you may find some of your overweight friends start to get a bit fed up.  If you think they’re jealous of your success, or angry that you’re doing something about your weight and making them feel guilty, try praising them, telling them how strong your friendship is and how much you rely on their support.

Away from home temptation can come in the form of office treats – usually bought by the slimmest person in the office.  Are they really doing it to spoil you?  Or are they sabotaging you because now you’re losing weight, you’re starting to look better than they do?

Ask them not to offer you cakes and, if they persist, ask them why they do when they know you’re trying to make healthier choices.  That puts the ball back in their court.

Remember, to resist temptation stay focused and you’ll achieve your goals!

The Beck Diet Solution: Train Your Brain to Think Like a Thin Person

The Beck Diet SolutionThis is a really useful book to accompany the Lighterlife programme. The focus is on using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (one of the core therapies we use on the Lighterlife Programme) to change the way you think about food.

Dr Beck, one of the foremost authorities in the field of CT, has created a six-week plan to help people stick with their weight loss programme, lose weight with confidence and keep weight off for a lifetime.

This plan is not only based on the author's personal success and on her success with her many clients, but also on published research.

It all starts with how you think. "The Beck Diet Solution" is designed to build psychological skills that will enable you to: avoid lapsing; cope with hunger and cravings; deal with stress and strong negative emotions without turning to food; motivate yourself to exercise; handle eating out, holidays, and special occasions; and eliminate overeating, bingeing, and relapsing. It will help you to diet successfully by changing the way you think.
